No more burnt fingers or tabletops with this quick and easy, free crochet trivet pattern! The Hexie Crochet Pot Holder pattern makes it easy to make and serve food while it’s still hot! As a busy mom that’s always my goal, but how often does that actually happen? With this double thick hot pad you can grab items out of the microwave or oven and set them right on the counter or table, ready to serve. The trick? It’s no trick! Just use your crochet hot pads as oven gloves and slide one underneath the hot pan or dish before you set it down! Saving time and eating hot food is winning in my book, how about you?
I was thinking about a way to create a crocheted pot holder that was quick to make and easy to clean, and could be made by a beginner. I love designing fun and functional crochet patterns that help YOU get your crochet on, and live your best life too. So I’m super excited to share my new FREE Hexie Motif Hot Pads Crochet Pattern with you. I sure hope y’all have as much fun making these as I did!

Quick and Easy Crochet Pot Holder
Y’all probably remember the Mystery Motif Crochet Along we did back in Sept 2021. These are the same Hexie Motifs that we used to create the Mystery CAL – Hexie Motif Wall Hanging! I always intended to make a whole series of patterns using this motif, and I’m so glad to share this Hexie Motif Pattern with you.
The best part is that this easy crochet hot pad pattern is quite easy to make with simple stitches and increases. You can make it in about an hour so they make great gifts! This free farmhouse pot holder crochet pattern is beginner friendly, and it’s double thick to keep you from burning your fingers or your countertops on a hot dish. Crochet an Easy Hot Pad
Materials:
YARN: Lily Sugar n’Cream Worsted Weight 4 yarn, (100% Cotton, 2.5 oz/71 g, 120 yds/109 m)
70-90 yds total – I used 2 different colors: 35 – 45 yds each color
Sample Colors: Wine, Black Currant, Black, Blueberry, Overcast, Yellow
OTHER SUPPLIES:
Size: (Sizing is approximate)
7.5” diameter
Gauge: 12 dc x 7 rows = 4” square
Gauge is not very important.
Experience Level: Easy
Pattern Key:
st(s) – stitch(es)
sp(s) – space(s)
ch(s) – chain(s)
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
FO – fasten off

Crochet Magic Circle Tutorial:

Step 1: Begin by creating a loop with your yarn, placing your hook through the loop, yo and pull the yarn through the loop, keep the loop open in a circle, ch 3 forming the 1st dc.
Step 2: Yo, insert hook back in circle, yo and pull up a loop through the circle.Yo again and pull through the 1st 2 loops on the hook, yo again, pull through last 2 loops on hook, dc completed!
Step 3: To create additional dc, yo, insert hook back in circle, yo and pull up a loop through the circle. Yo again and pull through the 1st 2 loops on the hook, yo again, pull through remaining 2 loops on hook, dc completed.
Step 4: Create the number of dc indicated in the free crochet trivet pattern, then hold your st with one hand and take the yarn end with the other and start to pull the circle tight. Pull gently so the yarn does not break. When the circle is closed, insert your hook in 3rd ch of beginning ch 3 and sl st to join.

NOTES:
- Read through the entire free crochet trivet pattern first.
- Beginning chain does count as a stitch on dc rounds only.
- Sl st only counts as a stitch on the final joining round.
- Hexie motifs are worked separately, then joined on the last round.
- Place all stitches between ( and ) in the same stitch.
- Repeat stitches between [ and ] the number of times indicated.

Hexie Motif Pot Holder:
Pattern Directions: (Make 2)
Round 1: Make a Magic Circle. Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc here and throughout), 11 dc in magic circle, sl st to top ch of beginning ch 3 to join, (12 dc).
Round 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next st, [2 dc in next st, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next st,] 5 times, sl st to join, (24 dc).
Round 3: Ch 3, dc in next 2 sts, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch 2 sp, [dc in next 4 sts, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch 2 sp,] 5 times, dc in last st, sl st to join, (36 dc).
Round 4: Ch 3, dc in next 3 sts, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch 2 sp, [dc in next 6 sts, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch 2 sp,] 5 times, dc in last 2 sts, sl st to join, (48 dc).
Round 5: Ch 3, dc in next 4 sts, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch 2 sp, [dc in next 8 sts, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch 2 sp,] 5 times, dc in last 3 sts, sl st to join, (60 dc).
Round 6: Ch 3, dc in next 5 sts, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch 2 sp, [dc in next 10 sts, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch 2 sp,] 5 times, dc in last 4 sts, (72 dc). FO, weave in the final end on one side, leave yarn attached on one side. A single side also makes an excellent wash cloth!
Step 1: Bring both sides together, wrong sides facing in. Tie the beginning yarn ends together at center with several knots and trim ends.
Step 2: Line up corners on both sides, making sure stitches are lined up on each side. Slip stitch both sides together, all the way around the outside, working in the BLO of both sides. At the last corner, ch 10 to form a hanging loop and continue to slip st to the end of the round. FO and weave in ends.
