DC Dice Bag and Tray

Free Crochet Pattern

Hey y’all! This summer is really flying by! Before it winds to a close, I am so excited to bring you another fun and functional (my fave combination 😉 ) Free Crochet Pattern! I know you’re going to love making the DC Dice Bag and Tray Crochet Pattern as much as I enjoyed designing it!

The DC Dice Bag pattern was inspired by a problem I found when playing board and dice games. We love games in our house, but I find we are forever either chasing dice across the floor, or they knock over pieces when rolled on the board. Add to this that my 11 year old son has a rather extensive collection of dice for D&D play.

With these ideas in mind, I started thinking about a way to hold or transport dice that you could also use as a contained dice rolling tray. Then the Easter Toy Tote happened. The design was originally meant to look like an egg, but in order for the play surface to be flat, there was no way I could see an egg shape. But who cares, because it gave us the perfect surface for toys – or Rolling Dice!

DC Dice Bag makes a Great Gift!

DC Dice Bag - Free Crochet Pattern - Drawstring Bag - Easy Crochet Pattern - Dice bag - Beginner Crochet - www.greenfoxfarmsdesigns.comAnd so the idea to turn the Toy Tote into a Dice Bag and Rolling Tray was born! The DC Dice Bag and Tray is very quick and easy to make, great for instant gratification and giving them as gifts! I love a fun project that I can give away, and this one is no exception. Give this one with a set of dice, a dice game, some nice D&D dice, or any board game that involves rolling a die! Endless possibilities, and what parent wouldn’t love a gift for their child or themselves that encourages non-electronic fun, team spirit, and usually a bit of brain power too! 🙂 Did I mention how much we enjoy playing board games?

You can find the original inspiration for this pattern, the Easter Toy Tote <– Here. Like Free Patterns? Then I also recommend you check out my most popular Free Pattern –> Tiny Dinosaur Amigurumi! Want to see even more? You can find all of my other Free Crochet Patterns <– Right here!!

The DC Dice Bag and Tray pattern is very quick to make, under an hour, especially the Small size! The rounds are DC (hence the name!) with simple increases, so it’s a great Netflix and Crochet project! They make great gifts or items to sell at your summer and fall markets! It’s always good to stock your table with quick projects you can sell for a lower price point! Don’t crochet? Send me a message through my Contact Page or through my Etsy shop here! I would love to create a DC Dice Bag just for you!

DC DICE BAG AND TRAY PATTERN

Materials:
(Click the links below to view & purchase the exact yarn that I used to create my DC Dice Bags!)

Worsted Weight yarn (70-120 yds)
I recommend Red Heart Super Saver in
G 4.0 mm hook

Pattern Key:

st(s) – stitch(es)
space – sp(s)
sl st – slip stitch
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
incr – incr by 2 dc in same st
yo – yarn over
FO – fasten off

Gauge: 4 dc and 2 rows = 1 inch

Check your Gauge first with a hook
Go UP a hook size if you have More Stitches
Go DOWN a hook size if you have Fewer Stitches

NOTES:

    • Having the correct gauge will help ensure your DC Dice Bag and Tray lies flat when it is open –  making a better rolling surface. For that reason I do recommend you make a gauge swatch before beginning the DC Dice Bag.
  • Beginning Chain (ch) of each round counts as first stitch
  • This pattern uses a Magic Circle. If you need help with this technique you can follow this link to view my video tutorial for the Magic Circle on YouTube or watch the video below!
  • This pattern is FREE, but has not been tested by anyone besides myself. Please feel free to share any questions or comments you may have! I welcome your feedback!
