Hello friends! Thanks so much for stopping by! Welcome to the next installment of Weekend Crochet – Tips & Tricks! Today I will share one of my favorite methods that I have learned as a Crochet Artist. Magic Circle Crochet!
I will be sharing a both a photo tutorial with written description and a video tutorial for each of the Magic Circles. Included are Single Crochet Magic Circle, Half Double Crochet Magic Circle, and Double Crochet Magic Circle methods.
The Magic Circle Foundations are a great technique to give a good foundation for any pattern worked in the round! I love to use a Magic Circle when making hats, dish cloths, and amigurumi patterns to name a few! I highly recommend the Magic Circle method for the first round of the following Free Crochet Patterns so you can get lots of practice with this technique!!
Congratulations! You are about to learn a stitch beyond the basic stitches in your Learn to Crochet Journey – the Treble Crochet Stitch! Now that you’ve got that half double crochet stitch and that double crochet stitch down, you are ready to ace the Treble Crochet! I think it goes without say that with the Treble Crochet you can crochet even bigger and faster, and create some really interesting projects with just 2 additional steps beyond the double crochet. High five! Read on to follow my easy photo and video tutorials for the Treble Crochet Stitch!
The Learn to Crochet Series was designed to help you learn to crochet the same way I did! Since I was already a busy mom when I learned to crochet, I found it easiest to learn with the help of well written beginner patterns, YouTube videos (like those you will find below!), and beginner stitch books. There are some fantastic programs out there to teach you to crochet, but it was hard for me to find the time and babysitter needed to attend a formal class. So for me, I preferred the “self taught” method.
Other benefits to the self taught method include cost savings, lower pressure, and the ability to learn at your own pace, and in your own time. Crochet is a wonderful creative outlet! I’m not kidding when I say that once I learned to crochet, I never wanted to stop (and I haven’t since)! 🙂 I hope you find as much joy in crochet as I do, but if you don’t, learning this way is the lowest commitment level, and maybe another craft is your jam instead! So, let’s get started and find out!
Welcome to my Crochet Decrease Stitches Guide! I created this Guide to common Decrease stitches to accompany my Cookies and Milk Crochet Pattern. More details about this pattern are below, or you can read all about it in the Blog Article HERE.
You will find some of these crochet decrease stitches more often than others. Sc2tog is most common, and you will find it frequently used in making amigurumi and other toys. The Hdc and Dc Crochet Decrease Stitches may be found in patterns such as Ripple or Chevon Blankets, and in hats worked from the bottom up, just to name a few. Read on below for the tutorials!
Congratulations! You are about to learn the final basic stitch in your Learn to Crochet Journey – the Double Crochet Stitch! Now that you OWN that half double crochet stitch, you are so ready to conquer the Double Crochet! Plus, remember how with a half double crochet stitch you can crochet bigger, faster? Well guess what? The Double Crochet takes you even further with just 2 additional steps. Woo! Read on to follow my easy photo and video tutorials for the Double Crochet Stitch!
The Learn to Crochet Series was designed to help you learn to crochet the same way I did! As a busy mom, the easiest and most appealing way for me to learn crochet was through the help of books, YouTube videos (like those you will find below!), and beginner patterns. While there are some fantastic programs out there, it was hard for me to find the time and babysitter needed to attend a formal class. So for me, I preferred the “self taught” method.
This method is also great for those who don’t have access to a local class, or those who prefer to learn without pressure, at your own pace, and in your own time. Crochet is a wonderful creative outlet! Once I learned to crochet, I never wanted to stop (and I haven’t)! 🙂 I hope it feels the same for your too, but if it doesn’t, learning this way won’t cost you much time or money – yet another bonus! So, let’s get started!
Welcome back to the next step in your Learn to Crochet Journey – the Half Double Crochet Stitch! Just one additional step takes you from a single crochet to a half double crochet stitch! What’s more, with a half double crochet stitch you can crochet bigger, faster and create so many things from garments, to hats to blankets!
This Learn to Crochet Series was designed to help you learn to crochet in the same manner I learned! For me, the most accessible method to learn crochet was through the help of books, YouTube videos (like those you will find below!), and beginner patterns. While there are some fantastic programs out there, as a busy mom I preferred this method of learning rather than having a formal “teacher” and classes.
The other aspect that of self paced teaching that I like is that you can learn without pressure, at your own pace, and in your own time. Like I stated above, this makes it perfect for busy moms (like me!) or students who need to work at their own pace! Or those who don’t have a lot of free time to take a class or seminar, but are eager to learn! Crochet is a wonderful creative outlet! When I found crochet, I knew that I was HOME! 🙂 I hope it feels the same for your too, but if it doesn’t, learning this way won’t cost you much time or money – Hooray! So, let’s get started!

Hello Friends! I am excited to share with you my top 10 Essential Crochet Tools that I think every Crochet Artist needs in their life! I have been crocheting for about 7 years at the time of this post. I certainly started off with a very different set of tools than I use today! I’ll bet you can say the same as well!
For me, lots of trial and error went into the decision to try new tools. I can be very frugal at times, so it was sometime difficult to decide to try more expensive items, but sometimes it truly is worth the investment! Value of course is in the eye of the beholder, with both form and function playing a role. The exciting thing is there are so many awesome handmade options now!
You could spend hours browsing through all the beautiful, creative, handmade crochet tools on Etsy. I’m not speaking from personal experience of course. That was certainly not my favorite part about writing this article. Well, actually getting to meet all of the wonderful sellers on Etsy was truly the best part, but the looking was a very close second!
My List of 10 Essential Crochet Tools are all tools that I use every day. I have tried to compile a list of a variety of options, but of course only touch the tip of the iceberg of the amazing options out there! How much time do you spend crocheting each week? For me that answer varies from week to week, but is usually upwards of 20 hours. That’s a significant amount of time, wouldn’t you say? A very happy investment of time in fact!
I don’t know about y’all, but I can’t live without my coffee. I know I’m not alone there! While my Keurig at home makes some pretty mean dark roast, I love me some Starbucks! Hot or iced, a lattè is my favorite drink, hands down! You?
But that lovely Starbucks lattè makes my poor little hand hot or cold to go with it’s lovely rich coffee self! What is a coffee loving girl to do? Well if she is creative and crafty, she will design herself a Unicorn Coffee Cozy, that’s what she will do! And so, she did! 🙂
As such, with this delicious motivation for design, and a Crochet Unicorn Hat Pattern fresh in my mind, a Unicorn Coffee Cozy (to match) was born! With the usual amount of trial and error, and lots o’ lattès for inspiration (I NEEDED those cups to get the fit just right, I swear! 😉) I found just the right sizing and got the image tweaked the way I wanted. Or as close as any perfectionist could get! 🙂
I am so excited to share this fun, Free Pattern with you! My Unicorn Coffee Cozy Design is quick and fun to make. Make one for yourself to make your coffee look fabulous! Added bonus is that your hand is kept just the right temperature while you enjoy that jolt of life… er … I mean caffeine! 😉
You can make one for a coffee loving friend – Unicorn Coffee Cozies make a great gift – especially paired with a Starbucks gift card. Better yet pair this awesome Unicorn Coffee Cozy gift with Y-O-U as you two enjoy a cup of coffee together! Make sure to also make a Cozy for yourself, and you’ll be the envy of the coffee shop!
I couldn’t be more thrilled to share this new crochet pattern with you! This awesome Crochet Unicorn Hat Pattern is ON SALE this weekend ONLY, AUGUST 18-20! Read on to get the details!
I have been working on this Crochet Unicorn Hat pattern off and on for about 6 months. So totally worth it! I have poured my heart into the details of this hat, to get just the right fit and just the right look! Perfectionism anyone? 😉
