Interview with Kim Shaw

Q: What is your name?

A: Kimberly Shaw, but I go by Kim

Q: How long have you been crocheting?

A: Almost 3 years now.

Q: How did you learn to crochet?

A: My grandmother taught me as a child. Knew a few basics but over the past 3 years I really got into crochet. Then Youtube had helped me with other stitches as well as learning how to read patterns.

A: I don’t mind making hats and scarves.

Q: How much time do you spend crocheting in an average week?

A: Hard to say. Some days I will crochet all day every day and other times I can go a couple of days without doing any.

Q: What was the most challenging crochet technique to learn?

A: So far the Reverse single crochet.  I will let you know how I feel about the Tunisian stitch when I try that.

Q: What do you find most rewarding about crocheting?

A: When the recipient is really happy with it. But also when I donate my items for different charities.

Q: What would you really like to crochet that you have not yet made?

A: Animal head mounts.  I have the book just have to give it a try.

Q: Do you crochet for Family, Friends, Business, a combination, or other?

A: I crochet for family, friends, donations for different charities and to help the homeless. I also crochet for business.

Q: If you have a business what is the name of your Crochet Business?

A: Little Red’s Handmade Creations

Q: Do you sell finished work, patterns or both?

A: My patterns that I am writing I am putting for free.  I want people to be able to see my pattern want to try it and know it isn’t going to cost them anything.  I know that money can be tight for some people and where I make hats, scarves and other things for charities I want people to be able to do that as well. Finish work yes if someone wants me to make it then yes.

Kim has 2 new patterns that she published for FREE on her Ravelry page! Thanks so much for sharing your talents Kim! Below are pictures of the patterns as well as links to download them from Ravelry! Enjoy!

A: Hats, scarves, ponchos and other items. I don’t have a full shop set up just items listed on my page if someone wants something they can ask me.

Q: How long have you been in business?

A: Well I just started in October. But again I usually end up crocheting more for donating, family and if people want it I haven’t really “pushed” the business part of it.

Q: Do you have a website or etsy to share so we can check out your work?

ravelry logoA: I haven’t set a website up but I have some of my projects on Ravelry.

Q: Do you have social media sites for your crochet?

A: Favorite of all is Salena Baca. Cindie Bennett, Danyel Pink, Emily Truman, Heidi Yates (Snappy Tots), Divine Debris, Buttonnose Crochet, CoCo Crochet, Lee Satori, Melody’s Makings, Marly Bird, Crochet Mikey.

Q: Do you do any other type of crafts like knitting, sewing, etc?

A: I used to be into crafts a long time ago just DIY and decorations type of things. I want to learn how to sew to learn to make quilts.

Q: What other activities do you enjoy?

stack of booksA: I am a Amateur Radio Operator (HAM), Hunting, Fishing, ATV’s, READING is my favorite and spending time with my grandchildren.

Q: What are your current WIPs or how many do you have?

A: I am testing a bunch of patterns, I have a CAL (Crochet A Long) I am doing with Happily Hooked Magazine, and designing some patterns.

Q: Anything else you’d like to share about yourself or your business?

A: Just a wife, a mom of 2 grown children, grandmother of 4, raising one of my grandchildren. I do the crocheting more for relaxing, fun to do and I also do it more to donate than make any profit.

That’s all we have to today. I want to thank Kim for taking time out of her busy schedule to talk with us and share a bit more about herself and her work! It was a pleasure to interview Kim, and hope you all enjoyed reading about her as much as I did! Please feel free to post any questions or comments below!
