Cozy Panda Hat Makes Winter fun!
This fun and Adorable Panda Hat Crochet Pattern was inspired by my 3 year old’s adoration of his own stuffed Panda Bear toy! I’ve been dying to make this for months, but it’s rather seasonal, so it seemed best to wait until Autumn at least. Seeing the smile on his face was well worth the wait, let me tell y’all! 🙂
When I first sketched this panda-hat design, I pictured cozy winsome ears peeking out from under snowflakes and a little grin of black-and-white spunk. Pandas are just simply adorable, at least IMHO… and I wanted the hat to bring that same delight, whether it’s for a baby photo prop, a toddler’s winter outing, or an adult who’s realized life is too short to wear boring hats!
But I couldn’t stop there, so I designed this hat to be fun and functional. With cozy earflap for keeping ears warm, tassels for keeping that hat in place, and options for making this cute and cozy Crochet Panda Hat truly your own!

The Cozy Panda Hat is an Easy Crochet Pattern, appropriate for advanced beginners and up. It offers 6 different sizes to make, from Newborn to Large Adult included, so you can make one for the whole family if you like! The pattern also features 2 eye styles – classic round and smiling eyes! Not to mention this pattern is really fun to make in different colors!
What You’ll Love
- Six sizes (from newborn through large adult) make this design super versatile.
- Simple construction: The pattern uses easy-to-manage stitches appropriate for advanced beginners (so if you’ve tackled a few accessories already, you’re good to go).
- Customizable color options: While classic panda is black & white, you could switch the accent color (for example the ear rim or eye-spots) to something fun like blush pink, mint, or a bright contrast.
- Great stash-buster: You need worsted/heavy worsted weight yarn — so you can dig through your stash and pull out those skeins that are just waiting for a hat moment.
- Practical warmth: This hat not only looks adorable but does its job — keeping little ears cozy in chillier weather.
Crochet a Cozy Panda Hat Pattern
My cozy panda hat crochet pattern works up quickly! I finished each of my sample hats in just a few hours! The hats are simple to make because you’re just making simple increases, then working in the round except the earflaps. The panda parts are worked separately, but you just need to sew the ears, eyes, and nose onto the hat with photos to guide you! I’ve included 6 sizes in the pattern, from newborn to large adult. Make one for the whole family!
This is the ideal Netflix and chill type of project with lots of repetition, so whether you watch your fave movie on Netflix or Prime Video, or pick a new, bingeable audiobook, while working on your adorable Panda Hat! I am currently rewatching Supernatural on Prime and listening to Star Mother on Libro.fm after falling in love with Still the Sun by the same author – Charlie N. Holmberg. I highly recommend all of her books based on what I’ve read so far! 💜
How to make a Crochet Panda Hat
- I used Red Heart with Love Yarn to create my samples and pattern, which is more of an aran or heavy worsted weight yarn
- Crochet hooks: The pattern uses different hook sizes for different parts. You’ll need the following hooks:
- US K/10.5 6.5 mm hook – Hat
US H/8 5.0 mm hook – Ears, Eye Spots
US G/6 4.0/4.25 mm hook – Eyes - Other essential tools for success: Yarn needle, scissors, optional stitch-marker.
- Recommended skills/stitches: single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), standard increases/decreases — nothing too wild, but good to have some experience with shaping. This is an easy, beginner panda hat pattern!

Tips for Making the Best Panda Hat
- Gauge matters: Even if you’re comfortable eyeballing, it’s worth a quick check so the hat fits well in each size.
- Yarn choice: Using a yarn with a nice drape but good stitch definition will help the ears and eye-spots “pop.”
- Color choice: For the classic look, go bold with black and white. For a fun twist, use a different color instead of black. We made ours in each child’s favorite color.
- Blocking/finishing: After crocheting, block the hat gently (if safe for your yarn) to help the earflaps sit nicely and the eye-spots lay flat.
- Personalization: Have fun with the different styles and options included in the pattern.
