STEP 4: Repeat Step 3 until you have completed the number of stitches called for in your beginning chain. Sl st the 1st and last sts together, being careful not to twist your work. Choosing the Best Yarn for Your Crochet Spa Set Pattern
Selecting the perfect yarn for your square crochet tray and glasses tray is essential for functionality and durability. Cotton yarn is my top pick thanks to its durability, structure, and clean finish. Cotton holds its shape well, making your trays sturdier and helping them to hold their shape, which is essential for holding items like keys, phones, or glasses. It’s also machine-washable, should the need arise. I like to use Paintbox Cotton Aran which is a nice sturdy cotton and comes in a huge range of fun colors to choose from!
You can also use other stiff or structured yarns. Yarns with hemp or other natural fiber blends will also be sturdy and structured, with minimal stretch, allowing for a similar effect. The goal is to create a tray that doesn’t flop or sag, so if you decide to use an acrylic yarn, go for one that is stiffer and will hold its shape like Red Heart Super Saver or Caron One Pound.
Ultimately, the best yarn for your free valet tray crochet pattern depends on your personal preference, what you have available locally or online, and the colors you want to use especially for a gift. Experiment with different yarns to find your perfect match!
NOTES:
- Read through the entire pattern first.
- Pattern is worked by holding 2 strands of worsted/aran (4) yarn together. Super bulky (6) yarn could be substituted. Stiffer yarn will hold the box shape best.
- Beginning chain does not count as a stitch. Place the 1st stitch of each row in the same stitch as beginning chain.
- Pattern is worked flat in rows and then sewn at the corners to create the tray shape.
- Box shape is created by pinching up the corners of the square/rectangle and sewing them in place to form the tray.
- The trays can be made to measure to get a different size or if you’re not quite meeting gauge. Just work the right number of stitches and rows to get a square or rectangle the size needed.
- Blocking your work before sewing corners will improve shape, correct size, and help the tray to lay flat when complete.
