Pop of Color Book Sleeve Pattern
FREE Crochet Pattern!
October is the perfect time to stitch something that doubles as décor and a thoughtful gift. The Pop of Color Crochet Accent Pillow pattern gives you a modern throw pillow with, ahem, pops of color, worked right into the fabric! Think autumn shades for a fall cozy home accent, bold brights for a kid’s room, or team colors for a men’s crochet gift idea that looks sharp on his sofa or game-day bed set.
When I hosted the Pop of Color Crochet Book Sleeve Crochet Along in 2024, y’all said that the process was quite addictive! So I’ve been wanting to teach another pattern using this design. The color scheme is so flexible! You could make them for Christmas, Valentine’s day and every season, and just change them out for instant decorative throw pillows!
One of my most popular patterns is the Pop of Color Basket Pattern – yet another free pattern here on the blog. Great for home storage, grouping gifts under the Christmas tree and toting your crochet projects around. I’ve popped the link here – see what I did there? So that you can maybe make either the book cover or a basket, once you’ve finished the CAL!
Happy Hooking!

Why You’ll Want to Make a Crochet Accent Pillow
A handmade accent pillow is one of the easiest ways to update a room without redecorating the whole space. The free crochet accent pillow pattern gives you a modern cushion design that’s both practical and personal. With a neutral base and flecks of color worked into the stitches, it can be styled for the season or matched to your everyday décor.
Making your own throw pillows is a simple way to get exactly what you want. The sewn-in insert holds its shape, so the pillow looks good on the couch, in a reading nook, or as a cozy accent on the bed. The best part is, the pattern is quick to work up, so you can easily switch to bright holiday shades later in the year, and pastels for spring! It’s an affordable and personal alternative to store bought pillows, makes a fun way to update your space, and will last longer too!
For gifting, the project is just as versatile. It makes a thoughtful handmade present for a new home, a wedding, or even as a men’s crochet gift idea worked in favorite sports team colors. From seasonal décor to practical comfort, a crochet accent pillow is the kind of project you’ll reach for again and again.
Pop of Color is fast becoming a collection of patterns! If you love using the same stitch to make all sorts of awesomeness?

Throw Pillows as Fall Cozy Home Accent
I’m sure that you’ve noticed? With so many home decor crochet patterns that I’ve created over the years, I love a bit of handmade decorating! October is the season for coziness, warm drinks, and soft textures around the home. A handmade crochet accent pillow is the perfect way to bring that fall comfort inside, with colors that echo the changing leaves. Think burnt orange, golden yellow, or deep burgundy flecks worked into the stitches for an autumn look that feels inviting.
These throw pillows pair beautifully with chunky blankets, candles, and other seasonal décor. You can swap out your Pop of Color Decorative Pillows anytime you want a fresh look, and your space will always feel updated without much effort. Besides just using cushions as an accent on the sofa, they add extra cozyness to a reading nook, a colorful accent on your bed, or a fun cushion for kids to use when sitting on the floor! They add a simple update that makes a space feel ready for cooler weather. I’m sure you’ll continue to use your handmade pillows, year after year.
A Handmade Men’s Crochet Gift Idea
An accent pillow doesn’t just belong in the living room. Worked in favorite (sports team) colors, the crochet accent pillow becomes a practical (and thoughtful) gift for men. It’s a piece he can actually use, and it carries more meaning than a store-bought option. Perfect for Father’s Day, birthdays, or the holidays, it’s a gift that fits into your guy’s everyday space.
-
Great for a dorm room bed
-
Adds his fave colors to the man cave sofa
-
Perfect for his office chair
-
A game-day cushion for watching sports
-
Works as a forever loved Father’s Day gift idea
Pop of Color Crochet Accent Pillow Pattern!
One of the best things about the Pop of Color Crochet Pillow Pattern is how simple and satisfying it is to make! The design uses easy stitches that create little spots of color that give the pillow its unique look. Once you’ve picked up the skills from the Crochet-a-long, you’ll be surprised how quickly it comes together. With three weeks to finish, you’ll have more than enough time to complete one pillow (or a whole set!) and personalize them with colors to match your home or the season.
Handmade throw pillows are perfect for brightening up a sofa, layering on the bed, or giving as thoughtful gifts. This is a quick and easy to make project, so you’ll have them going on repeat – it’s a bit addictive too! However you choose to make it, the Pop of Color Accent Pillow is a modern, practical, and fun project you’ll love adding to your home.
How does your crocheting time change in the fall? Normally, I love to listen to an audiobook while I crochet, or watch the latest movie on Amazon Prime! HBU? 😎 TBH, I think one of my favorite things about crocheting is that you can pick up your project do a little here and some more there and take it with you wherever you go. The Pop of Color Pillow Pattern is easy to make, simple to understand, and the stitches are repetitive enough to be the perfect crochet and chill project.
Need a little extra help with the stitches? The pattern includes photo tutorials to guide you every step of the way, plus you can always reach out if you have questions. And if you’re new to crochet, don’t worry — my Learn to Crochet with my fun Crochet Tutorials are a great place to start.
Crochet Pop of Color Throw Pillows for Gifting
A crochet accent pillow makes a personal present. Instead of reaching for another gift card, pair of socks, or a generic mug, you can stitch a soft, squishy pillow in colors that really matter. Holiday shades are perfect for Christmas, pastels work beautifully for a wedding gift, and favorite colors make a cool surprise for kids, teens, or men in your life. It’ll end up on a dorm bed, a playroom, or a home office, and is the kind of gift that will get used every day and remembered for years.
Who to gift them to:
-
Dad or grandpa: a Father’s Day pillow worked in favorite colors
-
Kids heading to college: a dorm bed accent that reminds them of home
-
Newlyweds: a pair of matching throw pillows for their first place together
-
Friends and neighbors: as a housewarming gift for their couch or entryway
-
Teachers: a small but meaningful appreciation gift they’ll use daily
This is a handmade gift that says I made this with you in mind.
