Crochet Along and FREE Crochet Pattern!
Y’all know how much I love a practical project. Useful (ok – or super cute!) is my go to every time. So this Easy Market Tote Pattern, using the Hopscotch stitch and adding to the growing Hopscotch pattern collection, was a no brainer!
If you’ve been here for a while? I’ve crocheted along with you quite a bit singe our first CAL in July of 2021. So this is the fourth Summer (Fall) CAL in a row! The first year we hooked the Sweet Stripes Market Totes. It was so much fun I planned 3 CALs for the following year! In the spring we hooked up some magic with the Sweet Stripes Hanging Baskets, and then had a blast creating the Summer Fun Tote Baskets together, and had our first Mystery Motif Crochet Along that Fall. Then, I just had to do it all again, with a spring CAL to create the stunning Moonrise Mountain Wall Tapestry, followed by our summer CAL, the Pop of Color Book Covers. If you missed them, go and take a look, because they’re still free and the video tutorials still exist. Which makes them both perfect beginner projects.
I love that you’re joining us this year with the Hopscotch Easy Market Tote Crochet-A-Long. Welcome! Keep reading to find out all the details.

Free Easy Market Tote Crochet Pattern!
The Hopscotch Market Tote is a simple, fun bag you’ll want to use again and again. It’s made with a combination of stitches and a gentle flow that’s great for relaxing crochet time. With two handy sizes, you can make one for groceries, one for the beach, or to carry your latest WIP project.
What makes these handy tote bags stand out is the Hopscotch Stitch—a cool textured stitch that looks fancy but is easy to learn. It gives the bag a sturdy feel and nice shape, so it holds up well no matter what you carry. It’s perfect for advanced beginners who want something useful and fun to make. However, I’ll be crafting this free pattern along side you, so beginners can make one too!
Even More Crochet Tote Bag Patterns!
I have a lot of crochet bag and basket patterns here on the blog, so if you’re looking for more of these handy projects after you’ve finished the Hopscotch Market Tote, you might want to head to one of these next!

Homemade Gifts They’ll Actually Use
There’s something extra sweet about giving a handmade tote that’s both cute and practical. The Hopscotch Market Tote makes a thoughtful gift for birthdays, holidays, or just because. Fill it with snacks for a road trip, yarn for your craft buddy, or fresh fruit from the farmers market. The textured stitch adds just the right amount of interest, while the two size options make it easy to customize for anyone on your list. It’s one of those go-to patterns you’ll keep coming back to for gift giving all year round.
Re-usable Wrapping This Christmas?
Forget the wasteful wrapping—this year, use your Hopscotch Market Tote as part of the gift! It’s a reusable way to bundle up presents that also feels personal and well thought out.
Tuck in some coffee beans and a mug, cozy socks and tea, or even handmade cookies in a tin. It’s perfect for friends, teachers, neighbors, and anyone who could use a little cheer and a bag that’s built to last.
You’ll find the textured stitches provide a nice sturdy feel, and the simple repeats make it a stress-free project for your holiday prep. One pattern, so many ways to make it special. And why not get hooking early this year?
Hopscotch Easy Market Tote Crochet Pattern!
Once you’ve made one along with me in the CAL, you’ll already know how quick and fun the Hopscotch Market Tote is to make. The repeats are simple, the texture is gorgeous, and it’s one of those projects that just flies off the hook. You’ll be finishing a second one in no time—maybe even in a new color or yarn weight! With three versatile sizes to choose from, there’s always a reason to make another, whether it’s for errands, gifting, or your next market day. The free pattern is easy to follow and gives you lots of ways to make it your own. Before you know it, you’ll have a whole collection of totes ready to grab and go.
How does your crocheting time change in the fall? Normally, I love to listen to an audiobook while I crochet, or watch the latest movie on Amazon Prime! And with the kids back in school, I like to indulge in a bit more crochet time, and treat myself to a new audiobook to inspire my stitches! I am currently listening to The Bane Witch by Ava Morgyn, and I’ve gotta tell you, this one sucked me in quick! Right now we are rewatching Season 1 (of 3) of Wheel of Time on Prime to catch back up for the newest Season 3 that came out earlier this year. While I impatiently wait for IT: Welcome to Derry to come out in October!! What are you reading and watching friends? Got any good crochet friendly recs to share??
Need some help with the stitches? I provide photo tutorials within the pattern to help you with the included techniques and more! I am always happy to help you with any questions you may have! Don’t crochet yet? I’d love to help you Learn to Crochet with my fun Crochet Tutorials!
The Best Yarn for this Easy Market Tote Pattern!
Selecting the perfect yarn for your Hopscotch Market Totes Pattern is essential for both functionality and sturdiness. Sturdy and easy care cotton and cotton blends are my recommendation for ease of use and durability.
The yarn I selected for this free easy market tote pattern is called Lion Brand Re-Up Bonus Bundle from Lion Brand Yarn. I am so excited to see all the recycled yarns that Lion Brand Yarn has been producing. I love the colors, the quality of the yarn and the sustainability they offer! It was sent to me as part of the Lion Brand Yarn Gifting Campaign.
Lion Brand Re-Up Bonus Bundle is perfect for this project! It is sturdy and soft, will last without pilling, and is strong enough to hold its shape without stretching. It offers the easy care of acrylic and durability and stitch definition of cotton, and made with recycled materials so it’s easier on the planet too!
LB Re-up is a soft and durable recycled cotton and acrylic blended yarn. This yarn offers a beautiful stitch definition and is truly a dream to work with! The bonus bundle gives you a lot of yarn to work with, perfect for larger projects like a tote bag! I love working with cotton and cotton blends, for their washability and durability. This yarn also comes in a lovely range of colors from earthy colors – currently 12 shades to choose from.
