What’s a Divided Dice Bag Pattern?

A multi-pocket, divided dice bag pattern is a crochet design that incorporates internal compartments or pockets within the bag. This means the bag is constructed with built-in divisions, created by using specific stitches to form panels for separate sections. The purpose of these divisions is to help organize your dice or other small gaming accessories, keeping different sets or types in their own designated spaces. This not only makes it easier to find the dice you need during gameplay but also adds a unique structural element to the bag, making it both functional and visually appealing.

If you’re looking for more divisions in your dice bag? You might love my Evan’s 8 pocket dice bag pattern! It’s a drawstring bag that opens up wide to display your whole dice collection, and draws shut nice and tight to keep them safe. The Evan’s 8 pocket dice bag is another free crochet pattern, and suited to advanced beginners and above.

So I’ve got great news for you… When you’re done making this bag, you will want to check out my other dice bag patterns! I think you will love the DC Dice Bag and Rolling Tray pattern, with 2 different size dice bags to make that double as a rolling tray too! Never go chasing after your dice again. Or if you’re more into amigurumi then you will love my most recent Potion of Moonlight Amigurumi Dice bottle which also offer a unique and super cool way to store your dice collection… in 3 sizes! Crochet Dice or Makeup Bag Pattern

I designed it to be able to store and organize your dice collection, large or small! But you can do a lot more with this bag if you choose! This functional drawstring bag can be used to hold anything you like too, and I think it would make an exceptionally nice makeup bag too! I love the idea of using the compartments for different makeup types, or to hold applicators and removers like sponges and rounds too. It would be a pretty great project bag for a small project where you’re using several colors to hold your minis and basic crochet supplies! Sky’s the limit y’all!

This free dice bag crochet pattern works up quickly! I finished both of my samples in just a few hours, even the pockets! The divided dice bags are simple to make because you’re just making simple increases, working in the round. The pockets are crocheted right into the bag too! The only sewing is the edges of the pockets, and the center!

This project is totally perfect for your next Netflix and chill night, with simple increases and lots of just straight stitching. So whether you watch your fave movie on Netflix or Prime Video, or give a listen to your latest bingeable audiobook, you’ll have a blast relaxing and crocheting your Fourfold Fate Divided Dice Bag Pattern! Right now, I’m watching House of the Dragon on Max  and I am currently listening to 2 audiobooks –  Outlander (first book in the Outlander Series) by Diana Gabaldon, and Dumas Key by Stephen King – on Audible.  I highly recommend all of them!   💜

About the Fourfold Fate Divided Dice Bag Pattern

This free pattern is geared toward intermediate crocheters who are ready to take their skills up a notch. The main stitch used is the extended half double crochet—it’s simple enough to learn but offers a step beyond basic stitches, adding an interesting texture to your work.

The most challenging part oi this crochet project, is constructing the four internal pockets that make this dice bag so functional. Don’t worry, though! I’ve recorded a video tutorial to guide you through the extended half double crochet stitch. I’ve also included a tutorial on assembling the pockets. With a bit of patience and practice, you’ll have a fantastic dice bag ready for your next game night!

Remember, these make great gifts for board gamers and tabletop role players too. Is your loved one into Dungeons and Dragons and can’t help but order all the dice sets? They’ll love sorting their collection into the 4 pockets that form the main structure of this bag, the softness of the crocheted fabric and the closure that means they can safely carry around their sets.

      Pattern Directions:

      USING G/6 4.0 MM HOOK

      DICE BAG:

You will be marking 4 sts on each odd Rounds 1-7 to indicate where the pocket panels will be crocheted to the bag. Mark sts on the wrong (in)side of the bag, as this is where the pockets will be worked.

Round 1: Make a Magic Circle with Main Color. Ch 2, 12 ehdc in magic circle, sl st to join, (12 ehdc). Mark 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th sts.

Round 2: Ch 2, 2 ehdc in each st around, sl st to join, (24 ehdc).

Round 3: Ch 2, [ehdc, 2 ehdc in next st,] 12 times, sl st to join, (36 ehdc). Mark 1st, 10th, 19th, 28th sts.

Round 4: Ch 2, [ehdc in next 2 sts, 2 ehdc in next st,] 12 times, sl st to join, (48 ehdc).

Round 5: Ch 2, [ehdc in next 3 sts, 2 ehdc in next st,] 12 times, sl st to join, (60 ehdc). Mark 1st, 16th, 31st, and 46th sts.

Round 6: Ch 2, [ehdc in next 4 sts, 2 ehdc in next st,] 12 times, sl st to join, (72 ehdc).

Rounds 7-18: Ch 2, ehdc in each st around, sl st to join, (72 ehdc, 12 rounds).

      Rounds 7 and 15: Mark 1st, 19th, 37th, 55th sts.

Round 19: Ch 2, [ehdc in next 4 sts, ch 2, skip next 2 sts,] 12 times, sl st to join, (12 ch-2 sps, 48 ehdc).

Round 20: Ch 2, [ehdc in next 4 sts, 2 ehdc in ch-2 sp,] 12 times, sl st to join, (72 ehdc).

Round 21: Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join, (72 sc).

Round 22: Ch 1, sl st in each st around, sl st to join, (72 sl sts). FO and weave in ends. Continue with the pocket panels.

crochet fourfold fate dice bag final 17 sq

      POCKET PANELS: (Make 2)

      USING G/6 4.0 MM HOOK

The pocket panels are worked in 2 separate sections, in rows. Each pocket panel Row 1 is worked directly into the base of the bag interior between Rounds 1-6, along 2 sets of marked stitches. These 2 pocket panels each form a v-shape as they are crocheted. They will be stitched to the walls of the bag along both edges, then the 2 pocket panels will be stitched together along the center of the panels, in order to form the 4 pockets.

      * Turn out bag so you can work the pockets on the inside bottom of the bag.

      * Leave a long tail at the beginning of the pocket panel for sewing to the bag.

Row 1: Join yarn to Round 6, between the marked sts of Rounds 5 and 7, on interior of bag. Work into the 2nd and 3rd loop of each st for stability. Ch 1, 2 sc in same st of Round 6, 2 sc in marked st of Round 5 moving toward center of bag, 2 sc in next st of Round 4, 2 sc in marked st of Roun 3, 2 sc in next st of Round 2, 2 sc in (2nd+3rd loop) of next marked st of Round 1, 1 sc in side of same marked st of Round 1.

Now you will continue working along the next set of marked sts forming v-shape.

Skip 2 sts (of Round 1 of bag) and sc in side of next marked st of Round 1, 2 sc in (2nd+3rd loop) of same marked st of Round 1, 2 sc in next st of Round 2 working back outward, 2 sc in marked st of Round 3, 2 sc in next st of Round 4, 2 sc in next st of Round 5, 2 sc in marked st of Round 6, (26 sc).

Remove markers from Rounds 1-5 along the 2 sections worked, leave Round 7 markers. SEE PHOTOS below for clarity.

Rows 2-9: Ch 2, turn, ehdc in each st across, (26 ehdc, 8 rows).

Row 10: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across, (26 sc).

Row 11: Sl st in each st across, (26 sl st). FO and leave a long tail to stitch to bag.

Repeat these same steps to create the second pocket panel along the other 2 marked sections of the bag. Continue with Finishing the Bag and creating the pockets.

crochet stitch pocket panels to bag fourfold tute 1 C

FINISHING THE BAG AND CREATING THE POCKETS:

      SEWING POCKET PANELS TO BAG:

STEP 1: Turn the sides of the bag up. Take the edge of one of your pocket panels, and line up Row 2 of the pocket panel with Round 7 of the bag on the inside, at the remaining marker.

STEP 2: Use marked stitch as a guide, pin edge of the panel to side of the bag, lining up the rows and stitches evenly. Row 2 of the panel is even with Round 7 of the bag, and Row 10 of the panel is even with Round 15 of the bag. I pinned every other row to keep them together.

STEP 3: Repeat the lining up and pinning process with the other end of the same panel. Then repeat the entire process with the second pocket panel.

crochet stitch pocket panels center fourfold tute 1 C 2

STEP 4: Using the long yarn end, stitch the pocket panel to the side of the bag, working each stitch through the pocket panel and the bag wall. You can use a whipstitch, running stitch or back stitch. The running/back stitches will likely show through the bag, so consider this when choosing the color of the yarn.

STEP 5: Repeat Step 4 on the other end of the pocket panel. Then repeat the entire process with the second pocket panel.

STEP 6: Find the middle of each pocket panel. Pin the 2 panels together at the center, from top to bottom using the same method as before. Use a length of yarn to stitch the 2 panels together at the center. Use a whipstitch. Weave in the ends. Continue with Drawstrings.

      DRAWSTRINGS: (Make 2)

STEP 1: Ch 121, FO and trim ends.

STEP 2: Weave drawstring through the spaces Round 19, and knot the ends together. Repeat with the other drawstring, weaving through the same holes, but place the knotted ends on the opposite side. Pull both knotted ends away from the center to cinch the bag.
