Free Tapestry Crochet Drawstring Bag Pattern
It seems like dice bag patterns are my ‘thing’ at the moment, have you noticed? And that’s because they really are! Our family love our dice games, board games, card games, ttrpg, you name it! Especially myself and my 17 year old who’s an enormous DnD (Dungeons and Dragons) fan! Which is how the baby dragon egg dice bag crochet pattern came about.
Specifically tailored for DnD (Dungeons and Dragons) and TTRPG (Tabletop Role-Playing Game) players, this crochet dice bag pattern serves both a functional and creative purpose. From its association with ‘Game of Thrones’ fandom to its practical use as a protective and portable dice holder, the baby dragon egg dice bag is as cute as it is practical.
In this blog post, y’all will discover the crafting journey of this unique bag, exploring the materials needed, the intricate crochet pattern of the dragon scales, the bag’s practical functionality, and its appeal as a personalized and thoughtful gift option.
But wait. There’s more!
This is an EGG pattern! You don’t have to use it for dice you know. You can absolutely make your own Baby Dragon Egg Pouch to gift sweet treats this Easter. Make yours an Easter Egg pattern, with a trove of treasures inside. And then repurpose the drawstring bag to carry whatever you like throughout the year. Hooray!
Baby Dragon Egg Dice Bag
This Baby Dragon Egg Dice Bag (which I’m affectionately nicknaming the Mother of Dragons dice bag) adds an element of fantasy and mystique to your gaming experience.
- Eye-catching Design: The visually appealing baby dragon egg design of the dice bag makes it an impressively striking addition to any gaming setup.
- Ample Storage Space: Emphasizing its practicality, the bag is spacious enough to hold a large number of dice sets, ensuring that all gaming essentials are kept in one place.
- Durable and Protective: Crafted with high-quality yarn, the dragon egg bag is designed to protect dice from damage, ensuring their longevity and preserving their condition.
- Portable and Convenient: Its lightweight and portable nature makes it a perfect companion for gaming sessions on the go, providing easy access to dice without compromising on convenience.
- Drawstring Pouch for Treasures: Take advantage of the drawstring and use the Dragon Egg Pouch to carry, house and protect all sorts of things! Even if the things aren’t dice. You will get LOTS of compliments on this bag. How do I know? Because we’re all recieving them everyday (because, yes, I’ve made them for us all!).
Reasons TTRPG Gamers Will Love this Dice Bag
- Gaming Experience: The dragon egg dice bag adds a unique and immersive element to the gaming environment, evoking a sense of fantasy and adventure. Pulling out dice from a beautifully crafted dragon egg creates a whimsical atmosphere that enhances the overall gaming experience.
- Unique and Personalized: Each bag can be customized to reflect the individual style and character of the player, allowing for personalization that aligns with their gaming persona. This level of customization makes the dice bag a reflection of the player’s creativity and connection to their TTRPG character.
- Organization and Convenience: The bag’s drawstring closure ensures that the dice are kept safely together, preventing the risk of losing or mixing them up during intense game sessions. This feature adds a practical advantage to the bag, contributing to seamless gameplay and organization.
- Aesthetic Appeal: With its eye-catching dragon egg design, the bag introduces a stylish and creative element to gaming accessories. The visually striking appearance of the bag enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of the gaming setup, adding a touch of artistry – and personality – to the gaming table.

Usefulness of the Bag and Further Creative Options
Versatile Storage
Not only does the bag hold dice, but it can also store small gaming accessories like tokens, miniatures, or game cards. Or you can take it in any direction you like! This small drawstring pouch will easily hold a deck of cards (tarot or standard play cards), small toys, and snacks or treats. Can you imagine making one as an Easter Egg Treat Pouch in pastel colors? That’s on my list to make this month for my youngest 2 kids!
Durability and Care Tips
The bag’s sturdy construction ensures a long lifespan. If you take care to catch the non-working yarn you will have a very durable bag. If the bag does get a little extra love, you can always spot clean or wash it. For best results, follow the care instructions for the yarn you used. When in doubt, I always recommend, handwash cold and lay flat to dry. Proper care can help maintain its quality and appearance.
Customizating Your Dragon Egg Dice Bag
Additional Customization Options: The dragon egg dice bag crochet pattern allows for customization with different colors and variations, creating a visually appealing effect. To match specific TTRPG themes or characters, consider customizing the bag further. Match your character’s colors and interests, or those of the lucky human you’re making the Dragon Egg Pouch for! Use your creativity – the sky is the limit here!
Choosing the Right Materials
First, choose a yarn that provides both durability and visual appeal. I recommend Furls Wander Yarn, which is what I used to design this Dragon Egg Pouch! Wander yarn is a soft and sturdy acrylic, with tons of amazing color choices to choose from. The color of the yarn can reflect the traditional dragon egg colors from popular stories or gaming cards, or you can opt for a more personalized color scheme to match your individual taste.
A Ginormous Thanks to Furls!
I want to say a big thank you to Furls Crochet for the opportunity to bring my Baby Dragon Egg Dice Bag Pattern to life! I am so thrilled to get to participate in the Furls Blog Hop 2024, and create my Tapestry Crochet Dragon Egg Dice Pouch pattern for this fantastic event! Make sure to check out all the other amazing and free pattern designs all year long on the Furls Crochet Blog Page!
I am so appreciative of their generous gift of the gorgeous Furls Wander Acrylic Yarn I used to design this fabulous tapestry crochet dice bag pattern to share with y’all! I am so in love with this yarn. First of all, with such large assortment of gorgeous colors from brights to pastels to neutrals there is something for everyone! The yarn is both soft and sturdy, with a really pretty sheen. I would highly recommend trying Furls Wander yarn for yourself because you know it will work up beautifully, and it was so much fun for me to choose my colors, I know y’all will have the same great experience too! 🧶
What pattern would be complete without a favorite crochet hooks from Furls – for me this is the Streamline Resin Hooks! I opted to use Zodiace Streamline Resin, since it’s gorgeous and my zodiac sign too – Sagittarius just happens to come in my fave colors – a blend of purple, yellow, a hint of glitter and so much shimmer! This hook is beautiful to look at and a dream to work with, a combo I find myself reaching for again and again. This style hook from Furls is one of my favorites to use for acrylic yarn – so the combination of the Streamline Resin hook and the Wander Acrylic yarn makes for a very satisfying project! But don’t just take my word for it, try them out for yourself!
Channel Your Inner Mother of Dragons
I mentioned earlier my pet name for this project. A mother dragon sits in her lair, watching over her nest of eggs. I feel kind of like the Mother of Dragons, bringing these Dragon Eggs to life! I’ve been channelling magic and fantasy, a medieval world filled with fantastical creatures. … my happy place…
This design is much more than just a pouch for your lucky D20s! This spellbinding dice bag is a gateway to epic adventures and legendary stories! Crafting the dragon egg dice bag presents an opportunity for fans to express their passion for the book and TV series. I think you know the one.
No, this isn’t a cloth or granny square. This project is about breathing fire into your creativity! For showing off your love for all things fantastical, and crafting an eye-catching companion for your next game night quest. So grab your yarn, channel your inner dragon spirit, and crochet the mightiest dice bag this side of the castle walls!

- Egg is worked in continuous rounds until the last 2 rounds. Mark the 1st st of each round with a stitch marker.
- Pattern uses Tapestry Crochet method for color changes. In Tapestry Crochet you will carry the non-working yarn throughout the design and catch it in a st every 3-5 sts. You may also choose to work over the non-working yarn for each stitch. Please note that doing this will create a stiffer/sturdier bag, and may increase the size slightly.
- Beginning chain does not count as a st. 1st st of each round should be placed in the same st as beginning ch 1. Sl st does not count as a stitch.
- Repeat stitches between [ and ] the number of times indicated.

For last sc of CA, insert hook and pull up a loop as usual. Drop the CA and pick up the CB yarn, yo and pull through both loops on the hook with CB, to complete the sc st. Carry the non-working yarn behind the stitches and catch it in a st every 3-5 sts. Repeat process for each color change.
