Easter Toy Tote

Free Crochet Pattern

Hey y’all! Is it just me, or is this year flying by even faster than last year?? I can’t believe it’s almost spring! In honor of this exciting time of year, I am so excited to bring you another fun and functional (my fave combination 😉 ) Free Crochet Pattern! I hope you enjoy making the Easter Toy Tote Crochet Pattern as much as I enjoyed designing it!

Easter Toy Tote - Free Crochet Pattern - www.GreenFoxFarmsDesigns.comThe Easter Toy Tote pattern was inspired by a need I saw with my younger 2 kiddos. My 6 year old wants to bring a set of dolls to play with everywhere we go. I happily encourage this because then she can pretty well occupy herself, and everybody wins! My 3 year old needs a variety of items to keep him happy, and this is a nice way to bring a variety of small items along, without weighing down my purse! 😉

Easter Toy Tote - Free Crochet Pattern - www.GreenFoxFarmsDesigns.comI loved the idea of a Toy Tote that could double as a play mat for the toys as well, because it helps to keep things contained, and adds that extra element of fun! The Easter Toy Tote was born, and came together perfectly, just as I had envisioned. This almost never happens to me, and I’m guessing it’s a rarity for everyone else too, am I right? I did make a couple of minor tweaks, but for the most part this is the initial idea 100%!

Easter Toy Tote - Free Crochet Pattern - www.GreenFoxFarmsDesigns.comMy Tiny Dinosaur Amigurumi pattern is a kind of perfect pairing for this pattern. Go check it out here if you haven’t made one yet! –> Tiny Dino Pattern It’s another Free Crochet Pattern (my first!), and my most visited blog post actually, so hey, you know it’s a good one! I have a Free Tiny Bunny Amigurumi Pattern as well, and this little guy is now published, yay! –>  Tiny Bunny would be so hoppy to play in your Easter Toy Tote! So punny, sometimes I just can’t help myself… 😉

Easter Toy Tote - Free Crochet Pattern - www.GreenFoxFarmsDesigns.comThe Easter Toy Tote pattern is fairly quick to make, taking me less than 2 hours to complete each of the 4 I’ve made to date. It consists of simple increases, so it’s a great Netflix and Crochet project! The Easter Toy Tote makes a fun gift for all the little and big kids in your life! Bigger kids can use it to stash books, card games, iPods, small notebooks, or whatever they enjoy! Little kids can bring stuffed animals, cars, blocks, books, dolls, rattles, even snacks! Don’t crochet? Send me a message through my Contact Page or through my Etsy shop here! I would love to create an Easter Toy Tote just for you!

NOTES:

    • Having the correct gauge will help ensure your Easter Toy Tote lies flat when it is open –  making a better play surface. For that reason I do recommend you make a gauge swatch before beginning Toy Tote.
  • Beginning Chain (ch) of each round counts as first stitch
  • This pattern uses a Magic Circle. If you need help with this technique you can follow this link to view my video tutorial for the Magic Circle on YouTube or watch the video below!

FINISHING EASTER TOY TOTE:

DRAWSTRING: ch 221, sl st into 2nd ch from hook, and all chs, (220 sl st) FO and secure ends. Weave the drawstring through the ch 1 sps from R17.

Take both ends and tie them in an overhand knot, leaving about a 1 inch tail on each end. This will keep the drawstring from falling out of the toy tote!! 🙂 To secure drawstring, create a loop in each hand, tie them in an overhand knot and pull tight to secure tote, creating a nice pair of handles. To open, simply pull on the end knot and it opens right up! See photos below. Alternately, you could pull up the drawstring at any 2 opposite ch 1 spaces as 2 handles and cinch it tight, whatever works best for you and your kiddo!
