The Calliope Crochet Pattern Collection is one of my favorite sets to revisit, because in every design I can play with a range of colors for a striking effect! Some projects are worked in the round with a mandala feel, while others grow into a bold granny square that’s perfect for bags, pouches, and washcloths. Once you learn the rhythm of the stitches used for the Calliope, you can use these motifs across the whole collection and mix them into all sorts of handmade projects.
What is the Calliope Mandala?
Where it all begins! The Calliope Mandala is the in-the-round version of the motif, worked outward from the center in bright, balanced rounds of color. It has a playful, sunburst-style shape that makes it perfect for coasters, festive décor, or pieces you can join into bigger designs. Because the stitch pattern repeats smoothly, the mandala is a relaxing project for advanced beginners who want something with texture – that has plenty of visual impact!
What is the Calliope Granny Square?
The Calliope Granny Square is a textured crochet square built out from the original Calliope Mandala Motif, giving it a modern twist on the classic granny square layout. It uses a mix of simple stitches and small clusters to create a sturdy motif that works well for bags, pouches, and home décor. Once you learn the flow of the rounds, the square becomes easy to customize, and it’s a great building block for larger Calliope projects in the collection.

Stitch Guide for the Calliope Granny Square Motif
