What’s a Cauldron Dice Bag Pattern?
A crochet cauldron dice bag pattern is a themed design that mimics the shape of a bubbling witch’s cauldron. The body of the bag is worked mostly in simple stitches, while textured bobbles create the look of a potion brewing inside. This gives the bag a three-dimensional finish that makes it stand out from a standard dice pouch, while also offering practical dice storage in a fun, witchy style. And additionally provides you with a free crochet pattern that can be used in different ways.
The Cauldron Dice Bag isn’t just for storing dice—it’s a versatile project you can use for tabletop gaming, Halloween decorations, or even as a quirky treat bag. With a roomy base and sturdy shape, it’s big enough to hold a few dozen dice, or other small treasures, while still being quick to work up. This mix of form and function makes it a fun project for crocheters who want to add a little magick to their crochet. 🪄🎲
A Unique Handmade Gift for Dad
Finding the right handmade gift for dad can be tricky, it’s not always easy to come up with something they’ll actually use and love. That’s why the Cauldron Dice Bag makes such a great idea. This easy crochet cauldron doubles as both décor and practical dice storage, making it a thoughtful and useful project to make and gift for men and gamers alike.
If your boyfriend, brother, hubby, or dad plays Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, or other tabletop games, he’ll love having his own cauldron bag to hold dice, runes, or cards — especially if he plays a wizard, sorcerer, or warlock at the table. But don’t forget to make one for yourself too! And if gaming isn’t his thing, the amigurumi cauldron still works as a quirky catch-all bag for small items, or even as a cool Halloween decoration you’ll enjoy pulling out each year. Handmade gifts for dads and guys don’t have to be complicated, sometimes it just takes the right idea!

Crochet Cauldron Dice Bag Pattern
This easy crochet cauldron pattern is more than just a dice bag! Like I try to with most of my patterns, I designed it to be versatile so you can get plenty of use out of it. The roomy base is great for storing your dice, cards, or crystals, but it also makes a fun piece of holiday décor. However, if you’re not into gaming, it’s just as perfect for holding candy or using as a treat bag at Halloween parties. Best of all, if you grab a thinner yarn and a smaller hook, you can whip up a mini version that makes a fabulous witchy keychain — or even a quirky car mirror hanger. I think teens who love Shakespeare (double, double, toil and trouble…) or a goth aesthetic, would go wild for that!
Here are just a few ideas for your cauldron bag:
- Store a few dozen dice, or trinkets for your next D&D or TTRPG session.
- Use it as magical Halloween décor or a unique candy holder for parties.
- Work up a smaller version with embroidery floss, sock yarn or even sport yarn for a witchy cauldron keychain, car mirror hanger, or spooky bag charm.
This project is totally perfect for your next Netflix and chill night, with simple increases and lots of just straight stitching. So whether you watch your fave movie on Netflix or Prime Video, or give a listen to your latest bingeable audiobook, you’ll have a blast relaxing and crocheting your Easu Crochet Cauldron Dice Pouch Pattern! Right now, I’m excited about Wicked (Free to Stream on Prime Video), as well as watching A Discovery of Witches (again). I am also currently listening to Still the Sun by Charlie N. Holmberg on Audible. I highly recommend this excellent book if you like unique fantasy and world building. I’m also almost done listening to The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo. I’ve read almost every book she’s written and they do not disappoint! 💜

About the Easy Crochet Cauldron Dice Bag Pattern
This free pattern is designed for advanced beginners who want to try something a little different while still working mostly with basic stitches. The body of the cauldron uses single crochet and half double crochet, while bobble stitches create the bubbling potion effect at the top. It’s a straightforward project that looks more complex than it really is, and works up quickly once you get the rhythm down.
The trickiest part of this bag is the bobble stitches if you’ve never tried them before, but don’t worry — I’ve included clear step-by-step photo tutorials to help you along. Once you’ve made a few, you’ll be hooked on how much texture they add! In just a short time, you’ll have a fun, witchy dice bag that’s just as useful as it is eye-catching.
These cauldrons aren’t only for dice either. They make great tabletop props, quirky treat bags, or even festive Halloween décor. You could even size them down with thinner yarn and a smaller hook to make spooky keychains or car mirror hangers. However you use it, this cauldron pattern is a fun way to bring a little magic to your crochet.

Want Another Halloween Crochet Pattern?
I think you’ll also love my Potion Bottle Dice Bag pattern ! It’s a playful crochet design that looks like magical bottles and a vial, while doubling as functional storage. The bottles are stitched in simple rounds with a bit of shaping, and the design includes optional appliqués like a moon or spider to make each one feel unique.
The real fun is in their versatility—you can stuff the bottles to display as gothic or Halloween decorations, or leave them unstuffed and use them as dice shakers and storage bags. Each bottle works up in a different size, from a small phial that holds a standard 7-piece dice set to larger bottles that can stash a full collection. With three sizes included, this will be the pattern you’ll want to crochet next! 🧪
