10 Essential Crochet Tools

Hello Friends! I am excited to share with you my top 10 Essential Crochet Tools that I think every Crochet Artist needs in their life! I have been crocheting for about 7 years at the time of this post. I certainly started off with a very different set of tools than I use today! I’ll bet you can say the same as well!

For me, lots of trial and error went into the decision to try new tools. I can be very frugal at times, so it was sometime difficult to decide to try more expensive items, but sometimes it truly is worth the investment! Value of course is in the eye of the beholder, with both form and function playing a role. The exciting thing is there are so many awesome handmade options now!

You could spend hours browsing through all the beautiful, creative, handmade crochet tools on Etsy. I’m not speaking from personal experience of course. That was certainly not my favorite part about writing this article. Well, actually getting to meet all of the wonderful sellers on Etsy was truly the best part, but the looking was a very close second!

These are a few of my favorite things…

My List of 10 Essential Crochet Tools are all tools that I use every day. I have tried to compile a list of a variety of options, but of course only touch the tip of the iceberg of the amazing options out there! How much time do you spend crocheting each week? For me that answer varies from week to week, but is usually upwards of 20 hours. That’s a significant amount of time, wouldn’t you say? A very happy investment of time in fact!

Unicorn Coffee Cozy – Free Crochet Pattern

Unicorn Coffee Cozy – Free Crochet Pattern

I don’t know about y’all, but I can’t live without my coffee. I know I’m not alone there! While my Keurig at home makes some pretty mean dark roast, I love me some Starbucks! Hot or iced, a lattè is my favorite drink, hands down! You?

But that lovely Starbucks lattè makes my poor little hand hot or cold to go with it’s lovely rich coffee self! What is a coffee loving girl to do? Well if she is creative and crafty, she will design herself a Unicorn Coffee Cozy, that’s what she will do! And so, she did! 🙂

As such, with this delicious motivation for design, and a Crochet Unicorn Hat Pattern fresh in my mind, a Unicorn Coffee Cozy (to match) was born! With the usual amount of trial and error, and lots o’ lattès for inspiration (I NEEDED those cups to get the fit just right, I swear! 😉) I found just the right sizing and got the image tweaked the way I wanted. Or as close as any perfectionist could get! 🙂

You can make one for a coffee loving friend – Unicorn Coffee Cozies make a great gift – especially paired with a Starbucks gift card. Better yet pair this awesome Unicorn Coffee Cozy gift with Y-O-U as you two enjoy a cup of coffee together! Make sure to also make a Cozy for yourself, and you’ll be the envy of the coffee shop!

Single Crochet – Learn to Crochet Series

yarn hook button

Hello Friends!

I am thrilled to welcome you back for the next step in our Learn to Crochet Series – the Single Crochet Stitch! Just a few simple steps take you from a chain to a stitch – and with a single crochet you can make almost anything!

yarn hook button

This Learn to Crochet Series was designed to help you learn to crochet in the same manner I learned! I learned to crochet with the help of books, YouTube videos (like those you will find below!), and beginner patterns, rather than having a formal “teacher” to speak of.

I like this method of learning without pressure, at your own pace, and in your own time. Perfect for busy moms or students who need to work at their own pace! Or those who don’t have a lot of free time to take a class or seminar, but are eager to learn! Crochet is a wonderful creative outlet! For me, crochet was IT! I hope it is for your too, but if it isn’t, learning this way won’t cost you much time or money – Hooray!

I think this is a great way to learn with no pressure, at your own pace, and in your own time. A lot of us are moms and we don’t have a lot of free time to take a class or seminar, but we are eager to learn! Eager to have something to call our own – a creative outlet! For me, crochet was IT! I hope it is for your too, but if it isn’t, learning this way won’t cost you much time or money – Hooray!

The Foundation Crochet Stitches are a great technique to add a bit more stretch to your work than a traditional chain offers. I love to use Foundation Crochet to when making hats, mittens, and crochet crowns to name a few! I highly recommend the Foundation Half Double Crochet (fhdc) method for the first round of my Basic Crochet Crown and Crochet Dinosaur Crown Patterns!
