Mystery Motif Crochet Pattern!

After playing with blanket squares, granny squares, motifs in my Boho Bag, and creating a fun Scandinavian Garland Pattern (with you guessed it – motifs!) for Happily Hooked Magazine this year, I’ve got motifs on the brain! It’s really amazing and fun to take something simple and small, and turn it into almost anything! I have BIG PLANS for this little motif, let me tell you! I have so many ideas of how to use this in my head, and can’t wait to get it out to share with you! I also have a friend who’s quilting supply Etsy shop is built around motifs too. It’s almost like the universe is trying to tell me something… “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts!” or something like that!! 😝

Anyway, if you are obsessed with motifs like I am, then you might want to check out those patterns I mentioned above where you can play with motifs all you like:

Now on to the good news! These motifs are pretty quick to make! You can knock out the one’s you’ll need for your Mystery CAL pretty quickly!! The stitches and repeats are intentionally simple, because I want EVERYONE who wants to join to feel confident and able to take on this pattern! The trickiest part of the pattern will be the joining done during the second week, but I will not only go over that on the live, but will be making a youtube video as well. This pattern should be relaxing and fun to make! I have made a bunch of these motifs already in anticipation of putting together some additional patterns and ideas of what you can create using them! 😁

What is your favorite way to relax and crochet? I love to listen to an audiobook while I crochet, or watch the latest movie on Amazon Prime! In the cooler months I love to curl up in my recliner with a hot cup of tea, a cozy blanket, and my latest WIP! I will always have my fave Furls Crochet Hooks by my side too! It just doesn’t get much better than that!

Need some help with the stitches? I provide photo tutorials within the pattern to help you with the included techniques and more! I am always happy to help you with any questions you may have! Don’t crochet yet? I’d love to help you Learn to Crochet with my fun Crochet Tutorials!

Love Pinterest? Me too! Don’t forget to pin the pattern for later!! You can save from my pin boards here and follow me on Pinterest too for more gorgeous crochet patterns and helpful crochet tutorials, and lots more!

What is a Mystery Crochet Along?

A Mystery Crochet Along is a pattern that is revealed one part at a time, and the only person who knows what the pattern is in advance is the designer. Does that sound like fun? If so, read on to get some more details about this Mystery Crochet Along!

Dates:

Announcement: Thursday 9/16 Blog Post & Live in the FB Group to answer questions

Crochet Along: September 18 – October 3, 2021

Pattern:

Category: We are making a Home Decor Pattern

Details: The pattern will be based off a single motif pattern that we will join together.

Skill Level: This is an EASY Crochet Pattern!

Motifs: You will be making 6 Motifs in total.

Yarn:

Category: You will need 170 – 200 yards of Worsted Weight Yarn, any fiber will work! You will use about 25-30 yards per motif, and the rest for the joining and embellishments.

Colors: You are making 6 individual motifs, and joining them together. This pattern would look great with one or a few colors, think multiples of 2 or 3 since you’re making 6 total motifs. You might want to choose 2 colors and make 3×3 or 2×4, or you could choose 3 colors and make 2x2x2, or choose one color for all the motifs and one accent color.

Decorating Preferences: Color choices are a very individual choice, and I recommend you consider your personal decorating style! I love colors and variety so I chose 6 different colors, and am using a neutral color for my joining rounds and accents. You may have one or two colors that you use as accents in your home and I would encourage you to incorporate those colors along with any neutral colors you like to use in your decorating.

Color Theme: You may also want to choose colors that go along with a specific theme – like Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Chanukkah, Kwanzaa, etc. Which holiday is your favorite to decorate for? You could also go for a holiday for which you need to add your decor!

Other Supplies:

Hook: You will need an H/8 5.0 mm hook

Other: Yarn needle, scissors, measuring tape (for gauge).

Mystery Supply: Stick or Dowel 15″ – 18″ in length.

QUESTIONS: If you still have questions, I invite you to watch my live videos in our FB group. I will try to go Live on Instagram too, but have not yet planned the time! Please also join the FB Group where you can ask questions and see everyone else’s progress and guess together!

FINISHING:

ADD FRINGE:

Step 1: Cut 14 pieces of yarn 24” long, 14 pieces 20” long, and 14 pieces 16” long.

Step 2: Take a piece of yarn and fold it in half. Insert hook into desired stitch. Place the center of the yarn over the hook and pull it through the stitch, pulling up a loop. Pull ends of the yarn through the loop and tighten to secure, making sure the ends are even.

Step 3: Place the 24” pieces in each stitch on the bottom of Motif 5. Place the 20” pieces down the side of Motif 6. Place the 16” pieces along the bottom of Motif 6.

Step 4: Trim so ends all fall to the same length. An easy way to do this is to lay the piece down on a table, with the fringe laid flat and neat. Place a piece of masking tape across the fringe, placed about an inch above where you plan to trim. Trim ends.

ADD HANGING CHAINS:

Step 1: Attach accent yarn to in ch 1 sp of top right corner of Motif 2, ch 20. FO.

Step 2: Attach accent yarn around top join between Motifs 1/2, ch 25. FO.

Step 3: Attach accent yarn to in ch 1 sp of top right corner of Motif 1, ch 15. FO.

Step 4: Attach accent yarn to in ch 1 sp of top left corner of Motif 1, ch 18. FO.

Step 5: Wrap ends a few times around a dowel, stick, hoop, or finisher of your choice. I found using a tapestry needle to secure the end to my chain worked best. Add a hanging string of about 20” above the stick. Weave in ends. Hang up your new wall hanging and enjoy it!

Make sure to share your finished pics on Ravelry and in our Facebook Group for a chance to show off your work and win prizes too!
