Elixir Crochet Fingerless Glove Sizing
This free crochet pattern to make your own gorgeous fingerless gloves, comes in 3 generous sizes!
Important Considerations when hooking these gloves.
- Measure, measure, measure: The hand circumference is the most important measurement. Age ranges are just a starting point. Children of the same age can have vastly different hand sizes. It’s always best to measure the intended recipient’s hand.
- Gauge: Your gauge (how many stitches and rows you get per inch) will directly affect the finished size of the crochet fingerless gloves. Make sure to check your gauge and adjust your hook size accordingly to meet gauge for the best fit.
- Yarn choice: The type of yarn used can also affect the sizing. A thicker yarn will result in a larger glove, even with the same number of stitches.
- Stretch: Consider the stretch of the yarn. Some yarns have more give than others. You might want to make the finished glove slightly smaller than the hand circumference to account for stretch.
- Fit preference: Some people prefer a snug fit, while others like a looser fit. These gloves are designed to provide an “average” fit based on hand measurements below.
- Measure: For best results measure relaxed hand with palm up. Measure around the top of the hand over the knucks, not including the thumb. This pattern was written based on average hand measurements of 6.5” for child size, 7.5” for small adult size and 8.5” for large adult size.
- Blocking: You can block these gloves after finishing to help open up the lace. This may produce a slightly larger fit overall, so take your gauge into consideration.
Using the table below is a great start, but remember that accurate measurements and clear instructions are key to a well-fitting pair of gloves!
SIZE | Suggested Age Range | Approx Hand Circumference |
CHILD | 5-10 years | (Measure your child’s hand) |
SMALL ADULT | teen / adult small | 7-8 inches |
LARGE ADULT | adult large | 8-9 inches |

Lacy Crochet Fingerless Gloves Pattern
Fancy Cuffs
These fingerless gloves feature beautifully designed lacy cuffs that add a touch of elegance and sophistication. The delicate openwork of the lace pattern not only looks stunning but also provides a comfortable and breathable fit around the wrist. The intricate stitchwork creates a visually appealing texture that elevates these gloves from simple hand warmers to fashionable accessories.
Text-Friendly Design
The fingerless design of these gloves is specifically crafted to keep your finger free for using your phone or other tasks. Keeping your fingertips free means you can still feel what you’re doing, such as typing a quick message, scrolling through social media, or snapping a photo, these gloves keep your hands warm without sacrificing functionality.
What I’m Watching & Listening To (While I Crochet)
I love to binge a series on Prime / book on Audible + Crochet – I know that you do too! The simple, repetitive stitches of these lacy cuff gloves mean you can get into a rhythm and barely have to look at your work, leaving plenty of attention for that new show you’ve been dying to see. Plus, fingerless gloves are a quick project, so you can easily finish a pair in a weekend!
Right now, I’m obsessed with anything sci-fi and fantasy, as always.
I’m really enjoying watching Silo on Prime. I have not yet read The Silo Saga Books by Hugh Howey, but I do own them and will be reading them this year. and on Audible, I’m doing a (re-read) listening to Fourth Wing (Book 1 of the Empyrean Series) by Rebecca Yarros because the third book (Onyx Storm) in this series just came out – all the dragon talk is fueling my crochet inspiration!
What are you watching and listening to these days? Tell me in the comments! 🧶💜

How to Crochet a Pair of Funky Fingerless Gloves
These crochet fingerless gloves are incredibly versatile! The funky design is perfect for you and the teens, and the lacy cuff adds a touch of fancy flair. For the guys who prefer a more masculine look, simply leave off the cuff. The free pattern is also super flexible when it comes to yarn choices. They look fantastic in solid colors, variegated yarns, and even self-striping options. Go for neutral colors for an elegant pair, or choose bright and bold shades to add a pop of color to any outfit.
This free crochet gloves pattern is just right for intermediate crocheters and ambitious advanced beginners! In this Elixir Fingerless Gloves crochet pattern you’ll learn the Linked Half Double Crochet (lhdc) stitch! Just the thing to give these fingerless mittens some texture!
I’ve included detailed written instructions, step-by-step photo tutorials for each stitch, and my testers have shared that these techniques are easy to pick up with my video tutorials. By the end, you’ll confidently know how to crochet this unique pair of gloves, from start to finish!

My 100% go to hooks are Furls Streamline Metal Hooks, I loved using mine to create these gorgeous crochet fingerless gloves pattern!
Curious yarns I used to create my samples? For this project I used LB Heartland in Kobuk Valley for my Small Adult Fingerless Mittens, LB Heartland in Haleakala for my Large Adult Fingerless Gloves and LB Heartland in Glacier Bay for my Child Sized Crochet Fingerless Gloves I think you will have a LOT of fun choosing your own colors for this project.

st(s) – stitch(es)
sp(s) – space(s)
ch(s) – chain(s)
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
fsc – chainless foundation single crochet (see special stitches)
lhdc – linked half double crochet (see special stitches)
yo – yarn over
FO – fasten off
Special Stitches:
FIRST Linked Half Double Crochet of each ROUND:
Insert hook in 2nd ch from hook, yo and pull up a loop (this is the yo for lhdc), insert hook in 1st st, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through all 3 loops on the hook.
Linked Half Double Crochet Tutorial:
Insert hook in leftmost vertical bar of previous st, yo and pull up a loop, insert hook in next st, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through all 3 loops on the hook.
SPECIAL Stitches Placement GUIDE: (Child: Round 7, Sml/Lg Adult: Row 8/9)
Stitches are placed based on each group of 5 stitches from the prior row/round: (2 dc, ch-1, 2 dc). When working into each group you will work a st in first dc, skip next dc, work 3 sts in ch-1 sp, skip next dc, work a st in last dc. This stitch placement keeps the look of the stitches for current round/row consistent with the other rounds having the 5 stitch groups.
Stitches are worked where arrows indicate, single arrow for single stitches, 3 arrow where the 3 lhdc / lsc are worked in the ch-1 space.
Chainless Foundation Single Crochet Tutorial:
VIDEO TUTORIAL: https://youtu.be/hF2uPubWoM4?si=jOxbmjOMyGWNFipE
STEP 1: Ch 2, insert hook in 1st ch, yo and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook), yo and pull through 1st loop on hook, yo and pull through both loops on hook. 1 fsc.
STEP 2: Working in the two loops on top, (this is your “foundation chain”), insert your hook, yo and pull up a loop (2 loops on your hook), yo and pull through 1st loop on hook, yo and pull through both loops on hook. 2 fsc.
STEP 3: Insert hook into the next “stitch”, yo and pull up a loop (2 loops on your hook), yo and pull through 1st loop on hook, yo and pull through both loops on hook. 3 fsc.
STEP 4: Repeat Step 3 until you have completed the number of stitches called for in your beginning chain. Sl st the 1st and last sts together, being careful not to twist your work. Keep in mind that the top of your row is where the hook is located. If desired, use the yarn tail to stitch the small gap where the 1st and last st were joined.
NOTES:
- Read through the entire pattern first.
- Make a gauge swatch for proper sizing.
- Beginning chain 3 does count as a stitch on (2 dc-ch 1-2 dc) cluster rounds. Sl st does not count as a stitch.
- Beginning chain 2 does not count as a stitch on lhdc rounds. First st of round is placed in the same st as beginning ch 2.
- Repeat stitches between [ and ] the number of times indicated.
- Place all stitches between ( and ) in the same stitch.
- Gloves are worked in joined rounds
- Thumb is formed by working several rounds as unjoined rows, in the middle of the hand portion to form the thumbhole.
