What Does Cottagecore Mean?
Cottagecore crochet is a fairly new term, that encompasses all manner of cute, woodsy, farmhouse, witchy and practical crochet patterns! In my opinion, the more rustic and nature-based, the better!
Also, the term is likely to be used in conjunction with Fall craft patterns and has been greatly adopted in Cosplay circles – think fairy tales and Manga cartoons. Those that sell at markets… if you Make it, Bake it, Grow it, Sew it or Stitch it? Then it’s probably well suited to the Cottagecore theme!
Finally, terms like self-reliance, sustainability and eco-friendly also fall into the cottagecore category.
I hope this summary makes it much easier to understand! And now I bet, you’re looking forward to seeing what pattern links I have in store for you! They’re mostly free crochet patterns! They’re super cute and will whisk you away to deep forests and Autumn colors. Enjoy 💜
Which Yarns Are Most Suited to Cottagecore Crochet?
You’ll often find the different yarns used in cottagecore crochet patterns are made from natural fibres, like cotton, wool, alpaca, hemp, bamboo and recycled yarns.
Here are my favourite suggestions for natural fibre yarns! (aff)
- COTTON: Paintbox Cotton Aran 100% Cotton
- WOOL: Knit Picks Swish Worsted 100% Merino
- ALPACA: Knit Picks City Tweed Aran (Wool/Alpaca/Tweed Blend)
- BAMBOO: Lion Brand Truboo 100% Bamboo Yarn
- RECYCLED YARN: Lion Brand Wool Ease Recyled yarn
However, even frogging old projects and no longer needed WIPS, and re-purposing your leftover yarn stash is an environmental choice that fits right into the cottagecore theme!
