Cute Crochet Pouch Pattern

Zipper pouches are kind of my favorite bag, except how could I ever choose just one favorite, ya know? They are just so useful and versatile if you have various sizes… which of course you know I love to include lots of size options in my patterns because it makes them so perfect for everyday use! And I love to design y’all patterns that are a practical project for special gifts!

If you’ve been around a while then you know I love to create lined bag patterns too! Not to mention with crochet purse patterns, and the beautiful, but open Sweet Stripes Stitch, we need a liner to keep all the things inside. A bag lining stops the littlest things from falling out in between the crochet stitches. Plus that lovely liner does double duty in protecting the goods inside too! Yes! As I like to tell my kids there IS a method to my madness!

The trickiest part is how to sew in a zipper, but with my detailed written instructions, new helpful video tutorial, and all the photo tutorials too, you’ve got this! 💪 Aaaand I’ve included an option to skip the zipper and create a button loop instead if you just don’t want to go there! You’re going to love this easy crochet project!

FINISHING ZIPPER POUCH:

ADD ZIPPER FINISH:

Step 1: Place inner liner inside of outer pouch so that the final row of each line up at the top.

Step 2: Fold down the top of the outer pouch slightly. Unzip zipper and place one side against the one side of the inner liner so that the zipper opening lines up with the inner liner and pin in place, repeat for the other side. It’s easiest to position on just the inner first.

Step 3: Bring the outer pouch back up and pin the zipper sandwiched in between the 2.

Step 4: With needle and thread (cut thread 2.5 – 3 times the length of zipper pouch), sew from inside out, beginning at either end of the pouch. Use a running stitch to go through inner liner, zipper, and outer pouch with each stitch, inside to outside, then outside to inside. I place my stitches just under the top loops of the final row for both parts of the pouch, and about .25 – .5 an inch below the zipper portion.

Step 5: Keep working all the way around the top edge of the pouch, taking care in the two ends to keep the zipper tape down, and I cross the pieces for extra security.

Step 6: Knot off the ends of the thread inside the inner liner once finished, trim and conceal the ends between the 2 layers. Congrats you are finished! See photos below.

OPTIONAL BUTTON LOOP FINISH:

Step 1: Place the inner liner inside of the outer pouch and pull it down so that the last round of both parts are lined up at the top edges.

Step 2: Join yarn at the middle stitch of one side of the pouch. Ch 1, work in the BLO of the outer pouch and the FLO of the inner liner, sl st in each st around, ch 12 to form the button loop, sl st in 1st st to join. FO and weave in ends.

Step 3: Sew a 1” button on the opposite side from the loop. See photos below.
