Free Crochet Dice Bag Pattern: Druid Linden Leaf Bag
I’ve wanted to design a crochet dice bag pattern that felt grounded in woodland stories, and this drawstring leaf dice bag is exactly that kind of project. The Druid Linden Leaf Dice Bag has a soft organic shape with a bit of texture, giving it the feel of something you’d carry into a campaign full of forests, quests, and quiet magic. It’s sized to hold a good handful of dice sets, but it also works for trinkets, crystals, or any small items you want to keep close.
This is a relaxing make for gamers, nature lovers, and anyone who enjoys quick crochet projects that look more complicated than they are. It’s a simple leaf shaped bag that really can be used for almost anything. The embroidered veins add definition without extra bulk, and the drawstring closes neatly with matching leaf tips for a polished look. It’s a quick crochet pouch that fits easily into a gaming bag, making it a handy accessory for tabletop nights or a thoughtful handmade gift for fellow adventurers. 🍃🎲

What is a Linden Leaf and it’s Role in Gaming
The linden leaf comes from the broad-leaved linden tree (genus Tilia), a tree that features heart-shaped foliage and has long been woven into myth, lore and nature symbolism. I also happen to have a few on my property! In many northern-European and Slavic traditions, linden trees were thought to be sacred gathering spots where communities met under their branches to settle disputes or mark important moments. In a fantasy or Dungeons & Dragons setting, a linden leaf often represents the natural world, peaceful forests, and the quiet magic druids draw their power from. That makes it a great symbol for a dice bag used in games. It suggests protection, growth, and the steady strength of the forest – perfect for holding your dice. 🪄🎲 Or if you’re into cosplay or LARP? The PDF pattern also includes instructions for adding a belt loop to your bag too, with 2 styles to suit your style!

This project is the perfect make for a quiet evening with your favorite show or audiobook. The stitching is simple, the pattern moves quickly, and you don’t need to juggle lots of steps to get a great result. Lately I’ve been working on mine while watching fantasy shows and listening to audiobooks, and it’s the ideal kind of project to unwind with, easy rhythm, relaxing repeats, and something cute to show for it when you’re done.
So whether you watch your fave movie on Netflix or Prime Video, or give a listen to your latest bingeable audiobook, you’ll have a blast relaxing and crocheting your Quick Crochet Leaf Dice Pouch Pattern! Right now, I’m enjoying a rewatch of Foundation, as well as watching It: Welcome to Derry. I am also currently listening to Star Father, the second book in the Star Mother Duology by Charlie N. Holmberg on Libro.fm . I highly recommend this excellent series and author if you like unique fantasy and world building. I’m also almost done listening to Starling House by Alix E. Harrow. I’ve read every book (except the one that just came out) she’s written and they do not disappoint! 💚

My Amazing Pattern Testers!
I’m so excited to share the Linden Leaf Dice Bag pattern with you, and I couldn’t have done it without my incredible testers. They worked up their own crochet leaf bags in different yarns and colors, giving this woodland design some really creative looks! Their feedback helps me fine-tune the pattern so you get clear steps, good photos, and a smooth stitching experience from start to finish.
Seeing how each tester’s leaf turned out has been such a joy. Some leaned into soft greens for a forest vibe, while others went bold with rich earth tones. It’s a quick project that even beginners can try, and you’ll see that their photos show just how fun it is to make for game night, gifting, or everyday use.

Round 14: Ch 1, [hdc in next 10 sts, (2 hdc) in next st,] 4 times, sl st to join, (48 hdc).
Rounds 15-22: Ch 1, hdc in each st around, sl st to join, (48 hdc, 8 rounds).
Round 23: Ch 2, [dc in next 2 sts, ch 1 and skip next st,] 16 times, sl st to join, (16 ch-1 sp, 32 dc).
Round 24: Ch 1, [sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in ch-1 sp,] 16 times, sl st to join, (64 sc). FO and weave in ends. Continue with Leaf Veins and Drawstring below.
ADD LEAF VEINS:
STEP 1: Cut a length of yarn 24-36 inches long from a contrasting yarn color. Use a backstitch to create a central vein from the tip of the leaf to just below Round 23.
STEP 2: Next using any remaining yarn, or cut a new length to stitch the side veins. Create 4 veins per side (or number of your choice.) I started the veins on each side at the same location along the center, and curved my line down and out to the edge. Tie off ends and weave them in if desired. You can repeat the veins on the other side or leave it plain.
HOW TO BACKSTITCH:
Pro Tip: Try to work some of your stitches through the crocheted stitches
Step 1: With a length of yarn (or embroidery thread), bring the yarn from the inside of the bag to the outside, leaving a long tail. Then create one stitch, about a quarter to a half an inch in length, bringing the yarn back to the inside of the bag.
Step 2: Next, bring the needle past the previous stitch and over another quarter to half an inch, and then bring the needle back up to the outside of the bag.
Step 3: Next bring the needle back down through the same space or near to the first stitch.
Step 4: Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for each additional stitch. When you are finished, tie off the ends and weave them in if desired.
ALTERNATELY CREATE VEINS USING SURFACE CROCHET:
If you prefer, you can create your veins using surface crochet in a more intricate design of your choosing. Make sure to keep your tension light to prevent the bag from puckering.
TIP: Surface crochet is making slip stitches in a line or pattern across the surface of your work. You begin by inserting the hook from the top of the bag to the inside, pulling up a loop of yarn. You will then create slip stitches by repeating the process of (inserting the hook from the top of the bag to the inside, and pulling up a loop of yarn) to form each stitch.
DRAWSTRING CLOSURE (Choose 1 style)
CLASSIC DRAWSTRINGS:
SINGLE DRAWSTRING: (Make 1)
Ch 111, FO and trim ends. Weave drawstring through the spaces in R24. Tie in a bow to close.
DOUBLE DRAWSTRING: (Make 2)
STEP 1: Ch 81, FO and trim ends.
STEP 2: Weave drawstring through the spaces in R23, and knot the ends together. Repeat with the other drawstring, weaving through the same holes, but place the knotted ends on the opposite side. Pull both knotted ends away from the center to cinch the bag. STEP 2: Weave drawstring through the spaces in R10. Tie in a bow or add a slider clasp to close.
LEAVES DRAWSTRING: (Make 2)
- Use a single strand of yarn and G 4.0 mm hook
- Leaves are created working down one side and up the other side of central chain
Step 1: Ch 8, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, hdc in next 2 ch, 2 dc in next ch, 6 dc in last ch, rotate now working down the opposite side of the beginning ch, 2 dc in next ch, hdc in next 2 ch, sc in next 2 ch, sl st in 1st ch, (2 sl sts, 4 sc, 4 hdc, 10 dc).
Step 2: Ch 1, sk sl st from prev round, sl st (loosely) in next 9 st, ch 75, cut yarn leaving about a 15 inch tail. Weave drawstring through the spaces in R23, then finish leaf in Step 3.
Step 3: Sl st in same st and next 9 sts, skip sl st, sl st into 1st ch to help point the end. FO, weave in ends. Repeat with the other drawstring, weaving through the same holes, but place the leaf on the opposite side. Pull both leaf ends away from the center to cinch bag.
