Pocket Shawl Features
I don’t know about y’all, but I live in Minnesota and it gets cold in early fall, then it gets really cold in winter, and then it stays cold well into spring! So cozy accessories are a literal necessity, and the Gaia Pocket Shawl is so very cozy, and makes a beautiful accessory too! This shawl will take you some time to make, as any shawl will, but the repeats are easy enough to remember that you can binge watch your favorite show or movie series and crank this one out!! Honestly, that is my fave way to make a crochet project!
The Gaia Pocket Shawl works up beautifully with Red Heart Super Saver Stripes Ombre! It takes about 1350 yards for the Adult Shawl, and about 1000 yards for the kids size! The original inspiration for this pattern was the stitch from my Sweet Stripes Pattern Collection, but the Gaia stitch pattern has more to it and is really beautiful and elegant! Because it uses a few more advanced stitches, I have rated the pattern intermediate, but I think an advanced beginner to definitely be successful with the pattern too, and learn a new stitch or 2 in the process! Win-win! 🧶
Don’t crochet? Send me a message through my Contact Page or through my Etsy shop here! I would love to create a Gaia Pocket Shawl just for you!

Hi. Lovely pattern. Excited to start. Question- if I want to change the length what is the multiple chain start? Or even better how many foundation half double crochet stitches should I have multiples of? Thanks!
Hi Bern,
You will want to work in multiples of 6 + 3, so to change the length of the shawl just increase the initial chain by a multiple of 6 (I’ve already got the +3 included in that number.) To work in fhdc, just use the final stitch count from Row 1 to create the number of fhdc + multiples of 6 to extend the length!
Hope you enjoy the pattern!
Best,
