Crochet Ice Cream Cone with Two Sizes
This crochet ice cream pattern includes both a full-size and mini version. The larger cone is perfect for little hands and works well as a soft baby rattle with a bit of stuffing and a rattle insert. The smaller size is just right for turning into a keychain or backpack charm. Both sizes use the same basic construction with easy adjustments in stitch count and round numbers.
Find the step-by-step instructions for both versions below, as part of this free pattern!
Why You’ll Love This Free Ice Cream Cone Crochet Pattern!
Simple Stitches for Beginners
Izze is designed using only single crochet stitches, basic increases, and decreases. The straight forward amigurumi pattern is written with beginners in mind, so it’s easy to follow even for those new to amigurumi.
Simple Cone Shape That’s Quick to Make
The shaping creates a classic cone look without being complicated. Made using just two colors, it uses a small amount of yarn and can be finished in a short sitting. You can easily adjust the height if you prefer a mini or tall cone.
Sweet Scoop with a Rounded Top
The ice cream scoop sits perfectly on the cone, shaped with increases and decreases to form a smooth, rounded ball. Choose any ice cream flavor by swapping yarn colours. The scoop is made in one piece and attached with simple stitching. You can leave it plain or add texture using back loop stitches for a fun twist.
Great Scrapbusting Pattern That’s Budget Friendly!
This crochet ice cream project is also a quick make, using only a small amount of yarn and very little sewing. It’s a great stash-buster that works up fast – especially the Mini Crochet Ice Cream! It’s a quick, budget-friendly project that’s easy to make in batches.
Great for Summer and Craft Markets
The crochet ice cream design is perfect for summer-themed booths and gift tables. The keychain size is a great low-cost item to sell at markets for impulse buys, while the rattle-sized cone makes a thoughtful handmade baby gift, or fun plushie for pretend play. Both versions are lightweight, quick to make, and easy to package for inexpensive shipping, selling at events or small shop updates.

History of This Ice Cream Amigurumi Pattern
I scream, You scream, We all scream for Ice Cream! Excuse me while I reminisce my childhood a bit, but that chant brings me back… Anyone else? I have to admit I really enjoy hearing my own kids repeat this gem from my youth as well. This little walk down memory lane is all in celebration of my sweet Amigurumi Ice Cream Cone pattern!
I originally released this pattern back in April of 2017, however I had not yet started this website and blog (which came in May of the same year) so I never wrote up an introduction! So, I’m bringing this pattern back into the spotlight and give it its proper due!
My Crochet Ice Cream Cone Pattern is fun, easy and versatile! I originally created the Ice Cream Cone as a rattle for my then 9 month old boy – he’s now 10. He absolutely loved it and thankfully I wrote down the pattern because when his original cone got lost I was easily able to recreate another. Whew! No one likes a sad baby.
To jazz up the pattern a bit I decided to add some fun add-ons like the double scoop, whipped cream and a cherry on top! I also had to make a little mini version of the Crochet Ice Cream Cone that makes a perfect keychain for fun loving kids and grown ups alike! I sold out of mine every time I did a market stall, so needless to say the Mini Cone bag charms were a big hit!
Add a Face – Kawaii Style, or Keep It Classic
The crochet ice cream cone can be made with or without a face. You can add your choice of felt eyes, embroidered eyes or safety eyes and a small smile for a cute, playful version, or leave it plain for a more classic look. This flexibility makes Izze the Ice Cream Cone a great project for different age groups. Personal touches like sprinkles or felt toppings can also be added using scrap yarn. I can’t wait to see how y’all make your crochet ice cream creations shine!

- New colors should be joined in the last stitch of the previous round at the final pull through for the sc stitch.
- Repeat stitches between [ and ] the number of times indicated.
- Place all stitches between ( and ) in the same space.
- Mini Cone is not intended as a toy for children under the age of 3. Supervise babies with toys and inspect the toy each time it is used before giving it to a child who still puts toys in their mouth.

Round 9: [Sl st in BLO of next st, (hdc, ch 1, hdc) in FLO of next st,] 8 times, sl st to BLO of 1st st to join, (8 sl sts, 8 ch-1, 16 hdc). FO and leave a 12” tail to stitch to cone. See Finishing Instructions p. 4-5 Below.
TURN MINI CONE INTO KEYCHAIN:
- Insert a split key ring or jump ring into one of the stitches from your initial magic circle on the top of the key ring. Secure.
- For extra security, use a length of matching yarn and secure the ring with several stitches before stuffing the scoop.
FINISHING ICE CREAM CONE:
** Add any embellishments before stuffing your scoop or cone! **
ADD WHIPPED CREAM AND CHERRY:
Center opening of whipped cream over magic circle of scoop. Around the outer edge, securely stitch the whipped cream to the center/top of your Ice Cream scoop, placing 1-2 stitches per puff. Add the Cherry next, placed in the center of the whipped cream. Pass the yarn end through to the inside of the Ice Cream, then back up a few times to pass through each of the six bottom stitches on the cherry.
ADD EYES AND MOUTH:
**A safer option for children under 3 years is to add embroidered eyes. Use a satin stitch and Black Yarn or embroidery floss. Create several small stitches very close together, taller in the middler and shorter near the edges to form eyes. Place eyes as indicated in Step 1.
STEP 1: Using 9 mm safety eyes place the eyes on any side of the Ice Cream, between Rounds 10 and 11. Place the eyes with approximately 4-5 stitches between them, to your liking. Secure the backs on the eyes and tug to make sure they are secure.
STEP 2: Add a mouth by embroidering a “V” shape with 2 lines using Pink or Red yarn or embroidery floss. Place the mouth centered below the eyes, at Round 12.
ADD DOUBLE SCOOP:
STEP 1: Lightly stuff the double scoop (with the extra round), but not the other scoop yet!
STEP 2: Secure the 2 scoops together using a whipstitch. Work through the stitches of Round 17 of the double scoop (stuffed) and Round 5 of the other scoop using a whipstitch.
STUFF ICE CREAM SCOOP AND ADD RATTLE:
STEP 1: Stuff the Ice Cream lightly once you have completed the Face and/or added the Whipped Cream and Cherry to the top if desired.
STEP 2: Add a rattle by making a small well in the stuffing of the Ice Cream, place the rattle inside, and loosely cover it. The more firm your stuffing, the more muted the sound.
STEP 3: Stuff the Cone as well, starting with very small pieces to keep the cone shape in the bottom. I recommend stuffing the cone more firmly than the ice cream for stability and so that the finished Ice Cream Cone is not too top heavy.
STITCH CONE AND SCOOP TOGETHER:
STEP 1: Match top of cone with bottom of scoop. Whipstitch cone and scoop together, all the way around using yarn tail from the scoop.
STEP 2: For Ice Cream Cone work in BLO of Round 15, last round of sc for scoop and both loops of final Round 20 of cone. For Mini Cone work in BLO of Round 8, last round of sc for scoop and both loops of final Round 11 of cone. Weave in ends.
